Children’s HopeChest is working with George Fox University as CEO Tom Davis and Leonard Sweet, a well-known author, preacher and scholar, teach an online class together. Students enrolled in this class will be surprised when they do not encounter a typical classroom experience. Students will not just be discussing important issues they will be given the opportunity to DO something to make a difference in the world.
The class will address poverty, HIV, orphans, and widows. They will take part in an “Africa Project” divided into six challenging, hands-on phases. The project will commence with each group choosing a country that they are interested in either Uganda, Ethiopia or Swaziland, then they will then work with Children HopeChest’s ground staff to understand the needs of each individual community. From there, students will work together to develop a sustainable, micro-enterprise project that they feel will combat the problems which their country faces daily. However, the experience does not stop at the development plan.
The students will work with Children’s HopeChest in order to implement and execute their solutions. They will be able to see their plan in action. Photos and videos of the project will be available upon its completion.
