Next week, HopeChest is sending a team of 16 volunteer travelers to Ethiopia to bring the tangible Gospel into the lives of thousands of orphans. They’ve been preparing for months, and will soon be about the work of building school buildings, painting orphanages and dormitories, and bringing school supplies to poor Ethiopian villages.
It is these times that I am reminded of how Jesus went to the poor. He defined His earthly mission through the poor, declaring his mission to set the captives free and preach good news to the poor.
For the time this team will minister in Ethiopia, they will be “Jesus with skin.”
If you have never had the opportunity to serve on a mission trip, I would challenge you to make that a goal for the next year.
If you have, share a story or memory about how God worked through you and your team to bring His love to those you were serving.
And, please pray for our team. You can find more regular updates about our team in country at our Facebook.

I’ve recently started a blog, the information you provide on this site has helped me tremendously. Thank you for all of your time & work.
My name is Patricia Gilbertson and I am currently a university student in the University of Wisconsin system and I plan to use my studies to help orphans and human trafficking victims. Right now my plan is to major in something along the lines of world politics and global studies….including foreign language and such. If you have any wisdom on watch classes to take or major to have that would be greatly helpful. I am thinking about even going to law school eventually to study international law. I know I am called by God to help. To travel the world and make a difference in these areas. I just need to get there step by step.
Thanks for your time and may God continue to bless you for everything you do!

Just read Scared and picked up Priceless. These along with other books and Scriptures that are popping from the page are stirring me to prayer and I’m not sure what action. We adopted 2 of our children from China- One younger and one older. No doubt God’s heart is for the widow and orphan. I’m praying the sleeping American church will answer the call. I’m a pastor’s wife. Pray that our church will hear His voice and respond. Thanks for being His voice through your writing and organization.
