Last month HopeChest posted this cry for help on our website–asking you to help to save a life in Uganda. Here is Bosco’s story, incase you missed it, written by our ground director Joseph:
“Bosco is was born in 1996 in Obule Ajet, Ngariam in Eastern Uganda. Bosco is an orphan with five siblings and a mother (Alinga Christine-29 years). He attends Primary School and is in Grade Three. Bosco has a horrific story. He was living with his uncle who is a casual worker in one of the sugar estates. While Bosco was with his uncle, he developed wounds on his left leg, which his uncle did not pay any attention to. The wounds grew worse and became septic. Bosco’s uncle took him to live with relatives who later notified Bosco’s mother to come and pick up her son who was ailing. Bosco was overwhelmed with pain his mother henceforth decided to seek medical attention from the nearby Health Center. The condition was very advanced so they referred them to Soroti Referral Hospital .
On thorough examination, the doctors diagnosed that the condition could not be treated and therefore recommended Bosco’s leg be amputated. Having come up with the cost for the operation, Bosco needs 2,000,000= Uganda Shillings (excluding upkeep in the hospital and transportation) to have a successful operation/amputation on his left leg. However, this large sum of money is a real nightmare to Bosco’s family. The mother is requesting people of good will and charities to come to her rescue as she cannot meet this cost.”
The total amount required to complete surgery came to $1,500. HopeChest is pleased to report, that because of YOU, we were able to save Bosco and cover the entire cost of his surgery! His procedure took place on December 17th, 2009. The doctor did not amputate his leg but Bosco did undergo intensive surgery.
Bosco is currently in a private ward hospital trying to recover. This is the first time Bosco and his mother have had water from a tap and a working, water toilet! He is still building his strength back and we ask you to continue to pray for him through this healing process. HopeChest wants to thank each and every one of you that played a role Bosco’s life. We will keep you updated on his progress.
