Swaziland Leadership Academy

Together we can shape the future of Swaziland

What is the Swaziland Leadership Academy?

The Swaziland Leadership Academy (SLA) is a three-year leadership program designed to provide discipleship and skills training to the young adults at HopeChest’s CarePoints.

Since 2007, HopeChest has provided program management, oversight, and discipleship to almost 6,000 children at 35 CarePoints in Swaziland. During this time, 35 CarePoints have been brought to a stable level of development–including providing clean water, regular food, and very basic healthcare.

The Swaziland Leadership Academy (SLA) is a three-year leadership program to designed to provide discipleship and skills training to the young adults at HopeChest’s CarePoints. Program participants are selected by a committee and then receive formal training and education, as well as hands-on leadership opportunities at their CarePoint. Through the SLA, young adults realize new opportunities for service, leadership, and employment with skills desired by local businesses or even possible long-term employment as directors of individual HopeChest CarePoints.

Your investment is needed.

By investing in the Swaziland Leadership Academy, you are helping provide an innovative solution that will empower the next generation and the future of an entire nation. Your giving will have a tremendous impact on shaping Swaziland. We need supporters at every level – big and small – because every donation will impact the future leaders of Swaziland. Together, let’s join our resources to affect individual lives AND a nation. Please consider investing in the lives of the next generation of leaders.

Why is SLA important?

Swaziland has the highest rate of HIV/AIDS in the world, giving it the unenviable title, “Nation of Orphans.” Because of the rapid, widespread, and long-term impact of HIV/AIDS, orphaed and vulnerable children now make up over one-fifth of Swaziland’s population. 47% of all child deaths are HIV-related.

AIDS has decimated generations of families leaving many children orphaned and alone, creating a vacuum of leadership, high rates of unemployment, and a bleak future for any real opportunity. Due to this harsh reality, HopeChest has chosen to focus the SLA on developing a sustainable source of Christ-centered leaders. Each successive SLA class empowers generational godly leaders who will serve their people through our CarePoint ministry while learning valuable job and life skills that prepares them for leadership roles throughout their lives.

HopeChest launched the SLA to raise up new Christian leaders who are trained, equipped, called, and prepared to lead Swaziland as a nation. Swaziland needs leaders; Christ-following leaders who desire to change the future of the nation. Please partner with us as we train up a new generation of nation-changers!

“The Swaziland Leadership Academy (SLA) embodies what we are trying to do in Swaziland. It’s our flagship program. The impact, outcomes and transformation that we can see through SLA is mind-blowing. I know that SLA is becoming a movement in Swaziland and will be a tool in God’s hand to bring hope, love, transformation and sustainability to the communities we work in. SLA is a must.”
