Centro de Alcance Pueblito CarePoint is a drop-in center located in Santa Catarina Pinula and directed by Heidi de Lima.
This CarePoint provides services to about 325 children in a rented house that includes open space for outside activities, a kitchen, five classrooms, a computer lab, an office/storage room, and restrooms. The majority of these children come from low-income families wherein parents or guardians do not have steady or fixed jobs. There are many broken families. In the homes that have a father figure, nearly 75% experience alcoholism. The family income is primarily used to pay for housing and food, leaving education and clothing in second place. Centro de Alcance has focused its efforts primarily on tutoring due to the low educational success in the area. Many of the parents or guardians of the children never finished elementary or middle school education levels, thus the CarePoint also offers an adult education program. Children at the CarePoint regularly manifest signs of digestive and respiratory illness, mostly due to the living conditions in their homes. Most families live in tight quarters, sharing a room and sometimes beds.
With the partnership of the His Hands Church, the children at Centro de Alcance Pueblito CarePoint have the opportunity to grow physically, spiritually, and emotionally while the His Hands Church community also experiences positive transformation!
