Ogoloi CarePoint

in partnership with Orphans of Teso

Ogoloi CarePoint is located in the Teso Sub-region of Eastern Uganda, about 45 km northeast of Soroti. The community has faced long-term challenges, including the Teso insurgency in the 1980s and Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) incursions in 2003, which caused widespread loss of life, property, and livelihoods. Despite these hardships, the people of Ogoloi remain resilient and hardworking. Many families continue to struggle with poverty, low income, and limited access to education, leading to child-headed households, school dropouts, early marriages, and child labor.

In partnership with Orphans of Teso, Ogoloi CarePoint has provided a safe and welcoming space where children and families have accessed programs that support education, leadership development, nutrition, health, and spiritual growth. Through these programs, children built on their strengths, families gained practical tools to thrive, and the community has grown stronger.

The Ogoloi CarePoint is part of the Orphans of Teso family of CarePoints in Eastern Uganda, which also includes Bukedea CarePoint and Ongongoja CarePoint.

Ogoloi CarePoint is now moving toward graduation. From the very beginning, the goal of HopeChest’s partnership with each CarePoint has been clear: to equip communities with the tools, resources, and leadership they need to thrive on their own terms. Graduation does not mean challenges disappear. Rather, it marks a powerful shift—where those challenges are met with confidence, local leadership, and sustainable resources that come from within.

Along the way, something remarkable happens: families become more self-sufficient, youth and adults step into leadership, and the community begins to take full ownership of its future. Years of partnership have built the systems, resilience, and vision needed for this community-based organization to thrive independently.

HopeChest’s approach to alleviating poverty is asset-based, because we believe that in every place on earth there are resources, not only for surviving, but for thriving and succeeding. Local leaders tell us what they do have instead of what they don’t have, and we walk with them to see their vision for their community come to fruition through development projects.

A fundraiser for Ogoloi CarePoint is transformational rather than transactional. It promotes empowerment rather than dependence. Your support for these projects will go a long way as, together, we invest in holistic and sustainable solutions that address the root issues of poverty.
