Adacar CarePoint is located in the Katakwi District of northeastern Uganda, about 430 kilometers from Kampala, the capital. Over the past 50 years, the community has faced displacement by neighboring Karamojong herdsmen and a 2003 attack by the Lord’s Resistance Army, which disrupted livelihoods and left many in poverty, facing disease and loss of identity. Despite these hardships, the people of Adacar remain resilient and resourceful, preserving strong family ties, a rich cultural heritage, and a commitment to one another.
In partnership with the Mayson/Houck Connect Community, Adacar CarePoint has provided a safe and welcoming space where children and families have accessed programs that support education, leadership development, nutrition, health, and spiritual growth. Through these programs, children built on their strengths, families gained practical tools to thrive, and the community has grown stronger.
Adacar CarePoint is now moving toward graduation. From the very beginning, the goal of HopeChest’s partnership with each CarePoint has been clear: to equip communities with the tools, resources, and leadership they need to thrive on their own terms. Graduation does not mean challenges disappear. Rather, it marks a powerful shift—where those challenges are met with confidence, local leadership, and sustainable resources that come from within.
Along the way, something remarkable happens: families become more self-sufficient, youth and adults step into leadership, and the community begins to take full ownership of its future. Years of partnership have built the systems, resilience, and vision needed for this community-based organization to thrive independently.
