Ongongoja is located roughly 450 km from Uganda’s capital, Kampala. Families in the area are reliant on subsistence farming and cattle rearing. Food security is a major concern with many families not having enough food to last between harvests.
The community faces challenges in providing basic education to children. Having to travel long distances and expensive school fees are two major factors of children not being able to attend school. Forty-three percent of the population aged six and older have never attended school. Malaria is the leading cause of illness and death among children five and under with HIV/AIDS continuing to be a significant challenge. Many deaths are due to preventable diseases.
With the partnership of Orphans of Teso, the children at Ongongoja CarePoint have the opportunity to grow physically, spiritually, and emotionally while the Orphans of Teso community also experiences positive transformation!
The Ongongoja CarePoint is part of the Orphans of Teso family of CarePoints in Eastern Uganda, which also includes Bukedea CarePoint and Ogoloi CarePoint.
