Artist renderings of possible design for the Warehouse and Retail Shops along Kitale Suam Highway

The warehouse project aims to establish a centralized facility for efficient storage, organization, and reselling of goods. The Market Center will be a physical building constructed on a portion of the Molem land that has frontage on the newly paved road between Kitale and the Suam border crossing into Uganda. This new road will exponentially increase market activity and access.

Frontage on the road provides excellent access to market opportunities and significantly increased traffic and economic activity. The building will have market stalls and secure storage capabilities for vendors from the CarePoint community. Paved access to the main road and parking area will increase the attractiveness and ease of access, helping to promote market activity.

Goals

The project aims to support small plot farmers and small business initiatives by providing fair market prices during harvest, enabling profit through strategic storage and sales, and offering access to larger markets via a retail outlet with high visibility and community connectivity.

Objectives

  • To provide a benefit and an opportunity for aggregating small plot farmers’ harvest, providing a fair market price to the small farmer at the time of harvest, storing grain/bean until market prices escalate (5-6 months after harvest), and creating profit by selling at higher prices when demand is high and supply is low.
  • To have a retail outlet for small business initiatives where marketable vegetables and/or hand- made products can access a larger market pool due to frontage on a major highway and local community access.

Warehouses and retail shops along the Kitale-Suam highway, at Molem Center, play a crucial role in communities by serving as vital hubs for storing, organizing, and reselling when market prices escalate. By providing a central location for inventory management, this projects contribute to the smooth functioning of supply chains, enabling businesses to meet customer demands and maintain consistent
product availability.

This project aims to benefit the community’s economic sustainability by opportunity of aggregating small plot farmers’ harvest, providing a fair market price to the small farmer at time of harvest, storing grain/bean until market prices escalate (5-6 months after harvest), and creating profit by selling at higher prices when demand is high and supply is low. In addition, having a retail outlet for small business initiatives provides access to a larger market pool for marketable vegetables and/or handmade products, thanks to its frontage on a major highway and local community access.

The project will help reduce procurement and distribution costs, enabling the optimization of resources and allocation of more funds to programs and services for vulnerable children. It will ultimately contribute to CarePoint’s long-term financial sustainability, enabling it to continue supporting needy children and families.
