Abel’s story in Ethiopia shows what is possible when hope meets opportunity. When he was just two months old, his father disappeared, leaving his mother, Bekelch, to care for him alone.

For years, they faced daily struggles to meet basic needs. They were evicted, relied on relatives for shelter, and Bekelch worked tirelessly as a house servant and later washing clothes to provide for Abel. Life was uncertain and exhausting, and hope felt fragile.
Everything began to change when Abel joined the Wondo Ber CarePoint as the first child ever registered. He gained access to food, medical care, school supplies, and a safe space to grow. Beyond these essentials, Abel developed confidence, life skills, and a sense of belonging.
Bekelch’s life transformed too. Through a CarePoint self-help group, mentorship, and a small startup fund, she launched a business that provided stability for her family. Together, mother and son returned to their faith, completed discipleship classes, and were baptized, growing spiritually alongside their personal and professional development.
Today, Abel is thriving as a national-level life skills graduate who mentors younger children and serves his church. Bekelch runs her business with confidence and participates in community initiatives like the Bakery Project. Their journey shows the power of support, guidance, and community investment to restore hope and dignity.
