Immeasurably More With Jim Cords

Over the past few months, our Path to Graduation series has explored what it takes to walk with children, communities, and partners toward CarePoint graduation. Today, we close the series with one final conversation that captures the heart of this journey and the extraordinary impact of walking together over time.

In this episode of Build Relationships. Break Poverty., Pastor Jim Cords of St. Timothy’s Lutheran Church in San Jose, California, reflects on the transformative partnership between his church and Chapa CarePoint in Ethiopia.

Inspired to move from “relief to development” after reading When Helping Hurts by Steve Corbett and Brian Fikkert, Pastor Jim shares:

“For us, it was also having a direct connection to those we were helping rather than just sending money for somebody else to help. We had a desire to be directly involved.”

This conversation highlights the beauty of community-to-community partnership. When two communities work together in trust, the impact multiplies. The results are immeasurably more than we could ask or imagine, extending far beyond the immediate work of sponsorship to equip the next generation to lead, care, and flourish.

“Build Relationships. Break Poverty.” is a podcast that challenges the Western perception of international poverty by elevating the voices of local leaders and processing how we can help to alleviate poverty without harming those living in vulnerable communities.
