Six years ago, Elizabeth had a dream. She wanted an education, new opportunities, and a future that looked different than the circumstances surrounding her day-to-day.
But for Elizabeth and her family in Kenya, that future often felt uncertain. Her mother struggled with ongoing health issues and was often unable to work, while her father relied on odd jobs to provide for the family and care for his wife.
Like many parents, her father Michael wanted to give his children every opportunity to succeed. Yet the financial challenges they faced made those dreams feel far out of reach.
When Elizabeth joined Mt. Elgone CarePoint, she found encouragement to pursue her goals, grow in her faith, and remain disciplined in her studies. At the same time, her father became involved in a savings group, where he learned practical tools and skills for planning ahead and saving for his children’s education.

This year, Elizabeth enrolled in university as a criminology student. Through years of faithful saving, her father was able to provide for her tuition, rent, food, clothing, and learning materials.
And while attending university is a significant milestone for any student, Elizabeth’s achievement is something even greater.
She is the first girl from her former secondary school, and the first from her community, to enroll in higher education.
