Velikoretskoye Orphanage is a refuge for children that have experienced loss, abandonment, neglect, abuse, and family degeneration.a
The village of Velikoretskoye has around 400 people and is located 50 miles Northwest of Kirov City. Velikoretskoye was originally a school founded in 1875. The building was closed for a period of time and then in 1995 a new dormitory building was added so that it could be re-opened as an orphanage. A new school building was opened in 2010 which includes a gym, cafeteria, computer lab, library, auditorium, playground, driving school, and 19 classrooms. Children from the surrounding area also attend school there. After school, the children participate in different clubs, academic electives, discipleship activities, and sports programs. The children also enjoy spending time practicing their gardening skills in the school’s vegetable garden. The devoted staff made up of 30 caregivers and teachers ensure that the children’s basic needs such as healthcare, food, and clothing are cared for. Through the orphanage’s programs and supportive staff, children at Velikoretskoye are given the opportunity to develop into healthy, independent, and successful adults.
With the partnership of Woods Chapel United Methodist Church, the children at Velikoretskoye Orphanage have the opportunity to grow physically, spiritually, and emotionally while the Woods Chapel United Methodist Church community also experiences positive transformation!

Empower a Child at Velikoretskoye
Empowering a child is one of the most personal ways that you can make an impact on global poverty. It is more than providing for their physical, emotional, and spiritual needs. When you sponsor a child, you build a relationship that shows that child they are valuable, worth loving, and worth investing in.
Your sponsorship is the starting point of a journey that equips vulnerable children, their families, and their communities to create sustainable transformation. When you sponsor a child with HopeChest, you are not just supporting one child — you are helping transform entire communities.

Fund a Project at Velikoretskoye
HopeChest’s approach to alleviating poverty is asset-based, because we believe that in every place on earth there are resources, not only for surviving, but for thriving and succeeding. Local leaders tell us what they do have instead of what they don’t have, and we walk with them to see their vision for their community come to fruition through development projects.
Your meaningful gift to fund a project at Velikoretskoye Orphanage is transformational rather than transactional. It promotes empowerment rather than dependence. Your support for these projects will go a long way as, together, we invest in holistic and sustainable solutions that address the root issues of poverty.
