We invite you to join us in transforming the lives of orphans through a community-to-community sponsorship with HopeChest.
HopeChest offers you a “community-to-community” model of sponsorship and development. We invite your entire church or business or whatever you call your community to come alongside the a community of orphans in need. Resources from your community flow into theirs–people, money, prayer.
The ultimate goal is to give every orphan the chance to succeed in their home culture and know God through a personal relationship with Jesus.
This partnership provides something for every member of the community. Some of your members will sponsor a child and begin a relationship that involves sending money and exchanging letters. But you can also engage by going on trips, praying for the kids, helping write letters, organizing fundraisers, giving what money you can offer when there are special trips and fundraisers.
The entry points are endless. Everyone in your community can have ownership in what’s happening at the community you sponsor–if they want it. It’s a full-featured set of ways to live out God’s commandments to love and care and do justice for orphans.

HopeChest partners primarily with churches, businesses and Christian communities such as blogs, online groups, book clubs, and small groups. FIVE: Getting Started
“A sower went out to sow his seed. And as he sowed, some fell by the wayside; and it was trampled down, and the birds of the air devoured it. Some fell on rock; and as soon as it sprang up, it withered away because it lacked moisture. And some fell among thorns, and the thorns sprang up with it and choked it. But others fell on good ground, sprang up, and yielded a crop a hundredfold.”
FIVE is designed for your community to find deep roots and explore where God would direct you to orphan care ministry with HopeChest.
FIVE is the framework your community will engage in while you begin dialogue with HopeChest about becoming one of our ministry partners. A FIVE seed group needs:
- At least 5 members (min not max), with preferably one being in a formal leadership position.
- Acknowledgment from the church/organization that it desires to start an orphan ministry, and the involved parties are the primary catalysts/decisionmakers.
- Commitment to complete the FIVE process (see below).
- Understanding of HopeChest's ministry model (Community-to-Community)
- Grounding in HopeChest's ministry philosophy (When Helping Hurts)
The FIVE Process
- Pray: Commit to individual prayer 5 minutes a day and corporate prayer together for 50 minutes. What is God revealing to you about your role in orphan care ministry.
- Fast: Fast from 1 meal a week (at least 5 hours). Other versions, fast from 5 meals (1-1/2 days) or fast for 5 days. Identify with the hunger faced by those trapped in extreme poverty. Allow God to speak in the spaces created by fasting.
- Give: Even prior to launching your partnership, we invite you to become regular givers to Children's HopeChest. Jesus said, "For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." Go to http://5for50.com to sign up to give $25/month
- Go: Complete a HopeChest mission/vision trip with our staff. We will personally introduce the work to your leadership. HopeChest handles all aspects of the trip, which should include the key leaders and decisionmakers from your community. On this trip you will select the community of children you will sponsor.
- Launch: HopeChest works with your team to effectively launch your sponsorship. Every member of your community will have the opportunity to connect as a child sponsor ($34/month) or a FIVE campaign participant ($5/month and higher) depending on the needs of your sponsored community.
Once you complete this process, HopeChest works with you to continue building your sponsorship, recruiting others to your ministry, and helping you conduct annual mission trips and fundraising projects for your sponsored community.
