Yet despite this rich and vibrant history, Ethiopia is home to one of the highest populations of orphans in the world.
Thirteen percent of Ethiopian children have lost one or both parents—over 4.5 million are orphaned and vulnerable children. HIV/AIDS and other preventable diseases have decimated the population, and high unemployment rates have contributed to the poverty of many Ethiopians.

In addition, sponsorship helps provide children with education, nutrition, and basic medical support, as well as Christian discipleship and mentorship. Established CarePoints in Ethiopia serve more than 5,000 children and youth in more than 30 locations.
